About the College

The Nigerian Air Force's highest professional military training institution.

AFWCN was conceptualised to develop the capacity of middle cadre officers in operational planning and management for the effective employment of air power. It plays a leading role in the articulation of strategy and doctrine in the development of airpower in the Nigerian Air Force, in line with the Chief of the Air Staff's vision of standardised training and mission-focused capability development.

Mission Statement

To develop qualitative manpower in the field of airpower for effective conduct of air operations and efficient utilization of airpower concepts and strategy, for officers of the NAF, sister Services and friendly nations.

College Motto

"Professionalism and Leadership" — carried on the College Logo's yellow parchment scroll, beneath the Eagle placed on a crossed sword and pen.

Operational competence in air operations, understanding of the contemporary operating environment, operational leadership, inter-agency cooperation, and airpower policy-making.

The War Course — 4 Phases, 26 Weeks

Full Curriculum & Admission Policy
Phase I

Foundation

Module 1

Establishes the foundational knowledge participants build on through the rest of the Course.

Phase II

Military Professional

Modules 2–5

Theory of War & Strategy, National Security & Defence Architecture, Leadership & Decision Making, Regional & International Studies.

Phase III

Operational Art & Campaign Planning

Modules 6–7

Air Power Studies, Space & Cyber Warfare; Campaign Planning, Operational Art and War Gaming.

Phase IV

Joint Exercise

Modules 8–9

International Law & Peace Support Operations; Joint Operation Planning and Exercises.

Admission is open to Wing Commanders and equivalent officers in other Services who have attended the Senior Staff Course, subject to NAF Medical Standards. Instruction is in English, through lectures, seminars, syndicate discussions and exercises, with study tours within Nigeria and abroad.
